![]() Thursday, August 10th at 8:30am Pacific Time We get questioned quite frequently as to why the existing network models in the data center won’t work in the new cloud-native or container environments, and specifically, why network segmentation needs to change. We’ll discuss that and hopefully get some interesting questions to make the conversation more interesting. »» Register Now «« |

LETTER FROM ANDY @ TIGERA This is a big week for Tigera… a new website, and the launch of our first product focused specifically on getting Kubernetes users from proof-of-concept to production: Tigera Essentials for Kubernetes. We’re excited to get it into the hands of the Calico community - so please do check out the website and contact us if you’re interested in trying it out. We realize that the introduction of a commercial product is often an important step in the life of an open source company. I think all our users understand that, for Calico to thrive in the long term, the organization behind it must build a sustainable business model. Some companies pursue a support-only strategy - but very few survive. Some pursue a hosted/SaaS model - but we didn’t hear a compelling argument for that from the perspective of the user experience. We chose to focus our commercial software on capabilities that will complement, not undermine, Calico’s reputation for being the best solution for at-scale, production deployments. Calico itself will always be free and open source, and always fit for purpose as the world’s best (simplest, most scalable, most secure) networking plug-in. I should also talk about our decision to focus on Kubernetes. We understand our community includes users on a range of environments, from OpenStack to Docker, Mesos to Rancher, and others. We will continue to embrace those platforms within the open source community, just as we have to date. As a business, however, we are focusing resources initially on Kubernetes as it is by far the most popular environment for Calico users today. We are excited about Essentials, and the future releases we have planned (watch this space!), and would love to hear your thoughts.
